色々意味のある単語②

Steel

日本語風に言うとスチールつまり
「鋼鉄、はがね」ってことです。

しかし一般的な名詞以外に、「意思を固める」という動詞での意味があるそうで。
英語辞書で調べたらさらに形容詞もあるみたいで、「鋼のような」という意味もあるそうです。TOEICでは名詞と動詞の意味がわかったらいいのか、参考書にはその２つがのっていました。今回は先日のIntransitiveでは無く、trつまりtransitive他動詞ってことですね。
ということは必然的に第ニ文型（S＋V＋O）等をとる動詞、目的語を伴う動詞です。

意思を固める以外に英語の辞書↓をみると、「何かを強くする」ってことなのでスチールが固いものだから、それが動詞になっても何かを強くするっていう意味になるのかな？と思います。因に同じ発音をするこれまた動詞に{Steal:盗む}があるのでリスニングではコンテンツ（前後関係）で推測しないとダメですね！
